One-In-Five Nevada Motorists Are Uninsured

You’re on your way to a meeting when suddenly, through no fault of your own, you and another vehicle collide. Your world stands still for a moment while you gather yourself. Naturally you ask yourself, “am I OK? Is the other driver OK?” Then you get out to exchange insurance information and they tell you that they are uninsured. Being involved in a car crash is a frustrating situation to be in, especially when you’re not at fault. It can be even more frustrating when the other driver is uninsured and you fear that now the damages must come out-of-pocket.

Unfortunately, this scenario is far too common in Nevada. Insurance Journal published an article in May of 2018 stating, “Nevada has 1.9 million drivers and 2.5 million registered vehicles, state Department of Motor Vehicles spokesman Kevin Malone said. He said estimates put the number of uninsured motorists at up to 20 percent.” When the chances of being involved in a collision with an uninsured motorist are 1 in 5, the only way to ensure that you are protected is by having Uninsured Motorist coverage through your insurance company.

What About Underinsured Motorists?

In addition to uninsured motorists in Nevada, the number of underinsured motorists is just as alarming. The article also states that as high as 31 percent of Nevada motorists are underinsured and only maintain the minimum coverage required by the state.

If you do not have Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage (UM/UIM coverage) on your auto policy, you must change that today!

UM/UIM coverage pays for medical bills and pain/suffering for you and your passengers in the event an at-fault uninsured driver or an at-fault driver with not enough liability coverage causes a collision.

How can you stay protected?

You can’t control how much coverage other motorists choose, but you can make sure that all of your bases are covered. If you are involved in an auto accident with an uninsured motorist, make sure that you seek legal representation with the attorneys at Eric Blank Injury Attorneys.
