Causes of Auto Accidents
If you were to do a survey asking people if they would like to be in a car accident, odds are that the overwhelming answer would be “no.” With people not aiming to get into collisions, one would think that they would happen infrequently. However, this is not the case. Unfortunately, accidents are an everyday occurrence on the roads, and regardless of how many precautions you take, there is still a chance that you could be involved in one.
The fact of the matter is, even if you do everything in your power to avoid being in an accident, you still cannot control what other drivers are doing on the roads, and you cannot control circumstances such as weather, or obstructions in the road. There are many different factors that go into causing an accident, but some causes are more common than others.
Aggressive driving is a common cause of car accidents, especially around high-pressure travel times, such as rush hour or during holidays. Emotions can run high in these circumstances, and they can present themselves are aggressive driving. This aggression can come across in many ways, such as excessive speeding, tailgating, running red lights, erratic lane changes, and illegal passing. All of these are considered dangerous and can result in a car accident that could have been easily avoided by controlling emotions.
Distracted driving is another common cause of car accidents, as there are many things that beg for our attention when we are behind the wheel. From answering text messages or emails, to changing the music, to interacting with passengers, or even eating while driving, an excess of attention-diverting activities are abundant. When our focus is drawn from the road to these other actions, however, accidents can happen. It is easy to drift from your lane, miss important traffic signals or signs, and collide with another vehicle when your eyes are not on the road.
Yet another cause for auto accidents is hazardous roadways. While this may not be other driver error, it can still fall in the realm of someone else’s negligence. Some road hazards are just natural occurrences, such as animals in the road, or hazardous weather conditions. However, there are some obstructions or obstacles that are not naturally occurring and can be linked to someone’s actions, or lack thereof. These road hazards can include rough roads, loose gravel, bumpy edges, uneven joints, debris, or excessive standing water. Most of the time, these circumstances can be prevented by taking actions to clear these obstacles when they occur.
With Las Vegas being a city filled with entertainment, clubs, bars, and dispensaries, it comes as no surprise that another leading cause for accidents is intoxicated driving. This is a preventable cause, as there are many alternative ride options, however, it is still unfortunately extremely common.
