Intoxicated Driving Accidents
Las Vegas is a hub for entertainment, a city that truly never sleeps. Here, there are bars and clubs on every corner, and a thriving cannabis industry. With easy access to these all of these substances, and a culture that encourages it, intoxication is extremely common. Unfortunately, this also means that intoxicated driving is quite common, and accidents related to such are as well.
Driving intoxicated in any manner is illegal in all 50 states, however, it unfortunately still happens, enough so to cause around 30 deaths per day within the United States. You can prevent yourself from driving intoxicated, however, you cannot control if other drivers operate their vehicles while they are intoxicated.
While you cannot control the actions of every driver on the roads, and you cannot prevent every intoxicated driving incident, there are many ways that you can become better prepared to avoid being involved in these situations, or how to handle them if they do happen.
First of all, if you are going out and think, or know, that you will be intoxicated at any point, make plans on how to get home beforehand. Either decide on a designated driver, one who will remain sober and act as a chauffeur for you and others, or utilize one of the several rideshare or taxi options that are available in Las Vegas.
Secondly, assist your friends with arranging safe ways home as well. Ask a sober friend to escort them home, or if you are sober, do it yourself. If neither of these options is available, help them order and Uber or Lyft to get home safely.
Third of all, whether you are driving sober, or if you are riding passenger to a friend driving, or in a rideshare or taxi, make sure that your seatbelt is on at all times. Should you happen to be involved in an accident with an intoxicated driver (or not), wearing your seatbelt helps provide you with an extra layer of protection and can help to prevent potential injuries.
You may do everything in your power to prevent being involved in an accident, however, as mentioned previously, you cannot control what other drivers do. There is always the chance that someone driving intoxicated can collide with you. What happens next in this situation? Like with any accident, there are certain steps that should be taken. Unlike most other accidents, however, the other driver may not be fully aware of what is going on. It’s important to make sure they stay on the scene, and do not flee for fear of being charged with a DUI.
